    Default Flag Identification

Hi, I am new to this forum. I found the forum by chance, through a link on Das Reich Militaria. I am on a research mission really. But didn't find the answer in the forum so far. I have some sort of flag, its yellow, with a green runic symbol. It is double sided and is made up of 5 individually machine sewn parts uv negative. Can anyone help? It's like a square, with a tail at the very top, the flag is over 2 foot long. Could be a unit flag.

    Best Regards.

    Alan.

Hello Alan and welcome to the forum. Do you have a picture you can upload? Easier than trying to explain what your item looks like :)

Could possibly be an early DJ Swallow tail.
I collect HJ/DJ shoulder straps and boards, and DJ Sigrunes

Another possibility is the pre-war 'Deutscher Pfadfinderbund' (german scouting association). They used a very similar rune as you can see on the 1933 pic below which shows a large Pfadfinderbund flag on the right. The first pic shows the symbol again.

Based on the bright colours (atypical for the Jungvolk as their symbol was white/black) and the rune shape my personal feeling is scouts (Pfadfinder). Hopefully we'll get more opinions.

Great photos. The runic symbol is very similar to the far right flag. What colour would that flag have been?

I thought that my flag could have been signals or cavalry, but welcome any opinions.

Thanks for the help so far :)

I don't know to be honest Alan but I would think black/white.

    Default funny coloured Wimpel

These kind of Wimpel are still in use among parts of the German scout movement and German youth movement and has been used before 1933 by many groups. The Siegrune has not been used after 1945, so it must be an old piece. Using runes was quite common througghout the youth movement and so was the S rune. For example the Deutsche Pfadfinderbund used it as a square with black background a a white/silver/metal rune as a stickpin for their cubscouts up to June 1933. Flags would IMHO normaly follow this colouring but restrictions were not tight. To me the colouring (yellow and green) don't look very typical for most groups from the German youth movement but I dont have any idea who would use these two colours. (Most groups used the same colours from their badges/patches on their Flags again.) It may even be from the kajak section of a local sports club, it might be from a youth group close to any church, it might be be very early Jungvolk (I am no specialist on DJ-stuff) item. Hard to tell now. If I see anything similar on Fotos I will post the Information.

Good info Christian. I have a nice photo showing a boy from the early Pfadfinderbund wearing the stickpin you mentioned actually. I'll upload it once I've scanned it.
