hi guys,

i need some info abouth the HJ "Vlaanderen"
Is there someone who can tell me more abouth this section of the HJ
What was the difference in uniforms compared to the German HJ uniform
An outside source told me that they didnt use any bahn or triangle patches on there uniform...
I only found one photo from a flemish HJ with winteruniform (source:www.nieuweorde.be) wich confirms this...
There even no HJ patch on the scuff only the Flemish lion shield
but i'm even not sure if they used the same uniforms, winter and summer?
In the back i can see a hj uniform with bahn and tiangle, but i supose its a german HJ leader?
can anybody help me with this?

In the American magazine "Military Advisor" volume 8, number 2 from spring 1997
(so now 15 years ago) I did publish an article about the HJ from Flanders. With 8 pages I do
explain what I had found in those days about the institution about the Hitler-Jugend Vlaanderen
as noted in letters from the Auslandsamt in Berlin and Landesjugendführung Flandern. The
article included its development and some information about the uniform. The article included
a map with the Standort-names and about 16 photographs. No triangle was worn, but regular
HJ uniforms for winter with black shoulder-straps and German ranking-system and summer uniforms.
With some photographs the yellow patch with lion of Flanders was in use upon the left arm
(winter uniform lower left; summer uniform upper right). Girls did wear the patch upon the
white blouse upon the left breast. Various patterns of patch are known.

The photograph you show was owned by Jan Vincx, the author of the series:
"Vlaanderen in uniform". This photograph was copied by many. I got a reproduction
from mr. Vincx when he still was alive. This and other photographs from the HJ at
Flanders were given to me in about 1979.
There once was an article about the HJ from Flanders in the magazine "Spiegel Historiael",
written by G. Janssen and published in February 1983.
Three photographs you can find on pages 575-576 from my "Handbook of the Hitler-Jugend".

best regards,
wilhelm saris

HJ book from Flandern

I just came accross this book from the 1940's. I thought some here might like to look through some of its pages:

Some more samples from the inside of the book. It has over 60 photo pages. I did not buy it, because I have just spent over 600 Euro on my collection and the seller was asking another 200 Euro for this (very interesting) book.
