Hi all.
First post so if I break any rules please let me know.

I'm trying to get as information on my grand father (rank?, branch, dress items etc).

I appreciate it's difficult to say much from a picture but I'm still learning so I'm glad of any help.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, this is what I've gathered so far. The breast eagle is that of a luftwaffenhelfer (which should be blue in colour). The district triangle looks to be Nord Niedersachsen.
I think it is early or pre war? I'm not sure of any details on the cloth and shoulder boards, DJ rather than HJ?

Hi Tim

Welcome to this forum - the best place to get knowledge of HJ in all respects.

Very fine pic of your grand father - thanks for sharing with us.

I am not a specialist in uniforms, so the uniform it self I don't want to say anything about, but I know a little about the insignia.

About the breast eagle you are right: L H in black/blue - the shoulder boards (plain) are for Luftwaffen Helfer. With 1 silver braid =Luftwaffen Oberhelfer. With 1 pip = Luftwaffen Mannchaftsführer. I have the breast eagle in my collection and a shoulder board for Oberhelfer, see pic

I also have a pic of a Luftwaffen Helfer, same insignia and rank as your grand father.

As far as I know the pic of your grand father must be after the 26. of January 1943, because that was the date that Reichminister der Luftwaffe and Reich Jugend Führung made a deal about the HJ to help in Luftwaffe.

I hope that you got a little of the information you looked for.

BUT I am sure that some in this forum knows a lot more :001_smile:

In the Magazine "Deutsche Uniformen-Zeitschrift" from June 20, 1943 the insignia as mkholst
mentions, is described. Dienstgradabzeichen: Mannschaftsführer one aluminum pip upon the
shoulder-strap. Luftwaffenoberhelfer a silver braid with a width of 0.5 cm upon both shoulder-straps.

Many thanks for the information!

I'd be interested on your opinion (and everyone else's of course) on these items that I'm interested in and how they compare to yours and authenticity

Photos of uniform too small, can't read the RZM label, but not a regulation Flakhelfelfer uniform.
Looks like a HJ/DJ winteruniform with added Flakhelfer eagle and sports/BDM arm badge.

If you want to see photos etc., seach the forum for Luftwaffenhelfer, Flakhelfer, Flak helper.

The uniform is currently on the Collectors Guild site.

The group consists of blouse and trousers. Black wool "winterbluse" pull-over, and matching "überfallhose" trousers. The pull-over has a four button front closure. Machine sewn over the right breast pocket is an official pattern breast insignia for a "Hitler Jugend Flakhelfer," being a inverted triangle, in loosely woven black cotton, upon which is machine embroidered, in blue, the border to a Luftwaffe eagle, and the Gothic letters "L" and "H," for "Luftwaffenhelfer" (Air-force-auxiliary), above it. Machine sewn to the left sleeve is the typical HJ clothing diamond. Buttons look to me mostly original stitching. Original HJ/RZM tag to interior. Chest size 40". Nice original unmarked ski trousers and complete and in good condition. Waist size 32".

GRADE ****1/4 PRICE $995.00

It appears to be a good uniform but as stated normal HJ items, not a regulation Flakhelfer uniform. Sports insignia on the sleeve is odd. Insignia possibly added to enhance but who can say for certain.

Good to know that the items are original and the seller is being honest.
Yep That's where I found it, will give it a miss.

Thanks for the education. The only difference I can see between the flakhelfer uniform and the winterblouse seems to be the shoulder boards, is there something more I'm not seeing?

The Flakhelfer uniform was a grey color similar to Luftwaffe ground troops in color. Not to say that normal dark blue HJ uniforms were not worn with Flakhelfer insignia attached, many period photos show this to be true. Search the photos forum for many shots of Flakhelfers here. This is an odd photo I had of an NPEA member serving as a Flakhelfer, somewhat rare.

Very helpful, thank you both.

Albrecht is the belt brown or a worn/aged black (the same as the political belt or again special to FH?)

Hi all,

ive been browsing the district triangles for a while.

it looks like my gf wore the 'nord neidersachsen'?
which would make sense but I can't be sure.

Ive not seen it come up for sale, is it a rare/sought after one?

Ah good, hopefully be able to find one soon then.

There is an update! I have had a reply from the Deutsche Dienststelle.
Just need to get someone in the family to translate it for me.
