HJ units of the Volkssturm wore the traditional M37 winter or M42 Feurwehr uniforms however I have read that one unit of the HJ- Nahkampfbrigade were issued with surplus desert uniforms from the DAK.

Anyone any info or photos of this unit?

Whether its true or not it also states that some HJ in 1945 wore pre war black SS uniforms as they were waring any type of uniform they could lay their hands on!

I haven't personally come across period references to a 'Nahkampfbrigade' Nick but possibly the unit meant was the 1st Tank Destruction Brigade Hitler-Jugend (1. Panzervernichtungsbrigade Hitler-Jugend). According to Günter Kaufmann (worked on the staff of the RJF) the brigade was operational only for a short period between February and March 1945 and consisted of Adolf Hitler school pupils, NPEA students, teacher training school students and personnel from the pre-military training camps aged between 15 and 17. He says that they wore olive-green uniforms in the style of Organisation Todt. The brigade was deployed 30 to 50km behind the front line (eastern front).

There are however other accounts which show that individual battalions of the brigade were still fighting to the east of Berlin in April and certainly weren't 30-50km away from the front any more... As you say, there were many different types of 'uniform' in those desperate days.
