I was hoping you guys with good uniforms could post some pics of how or the correct way the buttons and patches would be sewn on Tunics/Shirts.
Thanks for any help you all can give.
Shawn

It depends on what type of buttons you are using . Early shirts and tunics had leather buttons . later on around 1934 shirts had a bakelite type button and later on they even had metal buttons . From aprox 1934-35 all HJ buttons were marked with the HJ-DJ motif .
Some times buttons were attached with metal rings attached from underneath . Other type of buttons were attached with thread .

The buttons are bakelite. The way it looks I would say rings?? Here is a pic. Were the patches hand sewn or machine? Was the sewing a straight or zig zag pattern?
Thanks
Shawn

You should use a thread from the 30's to have it 100% right.
You will find that easyly in Great-Grandma's sewing basket.
Or on fleamarkets, on ebay.com or ebay.de for a real cheap price.
So afterwards there will be nothing that will not stand the "black light glow test".
Fakers overlook that little details sometimes when pimping an item.
Do not rush the whole thing. It should be done with great consideration.
You may want to have the item around for years, don't you.
So it might take a few months to have it perfectly restored.
