DO you find that there is a great difference in TAB lengths ? There must have been a template for at least three length sizes to accomodate the small and larger sized boys

    Great question.
Yes Paul, some are longer than others. The regualtions regarding size are very specific, and in order to maintain the permission the manufacturers had to adhere to those regs. I think the size differences are from a number of reasons. Some boards appear unissued, compare them to used boards with some shrinkage from being laundered and exposed to lots of UV, and the unissued ones appear longer. Also the sew in variety are longer than the tongued variety to allow for them to be stitched into the shoulder seams of uniforms. I also have a few that appear to be homemade and all bets as far as regulation are off on those. Homemade items were strickly forbidden but we all have seen period photos that show this was not always adhered to. These kids and thier families were not very well off economically for the most part and sometimes may not have been able to purchase new items for uniforms, so they made do as best they could. This is just my opinion, for what it's worth.

thanks for the reply and your thoughts on this. Ref the homemade boards it was more than the norm for the early SA guys to have homemade collars especially ,so the term strickly prohibited may be to severe.
