Found this one on an obscure US Civil war dealers site for ubber cheap, bought it immeadiately. Bann 80 Wiesbaden of West Hessan Nassau Gebiet. Red numerals with white or yellowish piping. An odd color combination for HJ Straps. I've seen similar straps on a photo of a Reiter HJ tunic owned by Bob Coleman. This one was priced like a standard HJ strap, price was great. Will post better pics when it's in hand.

:yo: Gefolgschaft,
can you elaborate a little more on this odd colour scheme combination?:confused1:
Is this to be considered as Allgemeine HJ? Was it because of lack of material? Or maeby before standardisation (RZM) of uniformregularisations.
AM curious about this odd but nice catch of you.

Hi Wizard.
The Saris reference discusses this color combination briefly on page 401. Wim states that it is an anomoly that does not have a definate explaination at this point. Speculation exists that this is an earlier Streifendienst or a HJ Freiwillege Feuerwehr (fire brigade) unit strap. I've not seen a positively cited regulation regarding this color combination but believe these to be period used straps. Perhaps someone has a regulation or better explaination for this odd color combination.

:yo: Gefolgschaft,
Thx for the reply.:001_tongue:
So still a bitt of a mystery:crying::confused1:
Hope somebody can come forward and shed some light upon this odd combination?
Any-one?
(For should this be documented somewhere, and therefore be an official prescribed regulation,...than I need to alter my idea for a futur project Cc shoulderstraps in regards to HJ specialisations).
Any input would be welcome.

It says in the regulation that there was no difference between the HJ-Streifendienst and HJ Feuerwehrscharen uniform effects other than the fact that only the SRD wore the 'HJ-Streifendienst' CT (in the later period only worn by Scharführer and above) and that (qualified) personnel in the Feuerwehrscharen were permitted to wear the special sleeve patch. The direct implication then is that the Feuerwehrscharen shoulder straps and those worn by the SRD when wearing standard HJ uniform were one and the same (white braid and white Bann number stitching on a black strap).

The Reiter-HJ was never really anything more than a group of units with a maximum size of Gefolgschaft which were, in the vast majority of cases, concentrated in rural areas. Although it was initially given the status of Sondereinheit (special formation) within the HJ after the major reorganisation of the Hitler Youth in July 1933 it lost that status soon after and was eventually removed from the list. I don't know exactly when that happened but they weren't assigned a special insignia colour when these were introduced in 1936 so certainly at that point latest they moved into insignificance as far as the organisation of the HJ was concerned.

A possible explanation for your strap Darin is that someone possibly unpicked the braid and then dyed/bleached it as that would be the easier option for someone looking to make a special formation strap for temporary use. It does look more yellow than white on the pics so possibly the wearer was Nachrichten-HJ. A further possibility (if the colour seems more white with the strap in hand) is that a HJ-Feuerwehrschar member adapted the strap after being newly assigned. That seems plausible to me. I'm not thinking SRD though because one of the functions of the SRD was to inspect Hitler Youth members to ensure that they were wearing the correct uniform. Wouldn't do of course if the guy checking them wasn't himself wearing regulation uniform and effects.

The piping on the strap is definetly white. I think the possibility of a Feuerwehrscharen member makes more sense to me than anything. but still just specualtion. I have seen a photo of a Rieter HJ tunic that Bob Coleman showed once, and he said the straps were yellow piped with red numerals. Thanks for looking into it for me Garry and for your thoughts on the strap, most appreciated.

I stand corrected , My Mother was born in Berlin in 1940 ... married my American Father in 1960 ... we moved from Germany in 1964 ... cant remember much about the Fatherland ...LOL !
