A have a photograph of my Grandfather wearing a winter HJ uniform with shoulder boards each stitched with the number "230". Can someone please explain what that number indicates?

That is the Bann Number.

In this case, I believe that number means Bann 230 Düsseldorf. So your grandpa belonged to the HJ in Düsseldorf, I believe.

You're getting your Gebiete mixed up with your Banne a little there Antonio ;)

Bann 230 was Niederberg. It was part of Gebiet Ruhr-Niederrhein until 1938 when it changed to Gebiet Düsseldorf.

Agreed. Post the photo and maybe it will show badges or other insignia that will give clues to possible awards, training etc. that he recieved.

Sorry, I've been away from the forums for quite a while. Here is the photograph of my Grandfather, Lothar E. Brenner, wearing the "230" marked shoulder boards. If anyone has a pair of these, I'd very much like to purchase them.
