Hi Everyone

I have never claimed to be an expert , just a bit knowledgeable .

My question is , Could an HJ Leader ( Gefolgschaftsfuhrer and above )
wear a qualification badge on his sleeve for signals or motor skills etc ?

Joe, looking through all my reference books I don't find any photos of this. I also searched through the HJ Leaders photo thread on WAF and didn't see any. Angolias and Bakers book don't make mention of high level leaders wearing this insignia either. It's possible it was done, I personally haven't seen a photo.

Angolia's HJ mentions briefly the regional inspectors motor HJ insignia that was worn by Gebeitsinspekeure but it does not mention the rank held by that position, but I would think it's a more senior rank due to the position. Some of the Feldschar insignia chapter also mentions doctors and dentitsts who I would also assume held a higher rank. Angoias Vol 1 page 36 referecing the model 1936 pattern leaders tunic also mentions this,

" Shoulder boards were worn on both shoulders, and the HJ sleeve armband and district triangle were worn on the upper left sleeve in addition to other authorized HJ insignia."

Angolia does not go into detail as to what this "other authorized HJ insignia" consists of, or list the source or regulation for the information provided. This could be interpreted as specialist or qualification insignia, but I havent seen a photo yet.

Thank you Daren

You help out more people than you may think .

Another take on this Joe. I just picked up a Verwalter's sleeve insignia of the Gefolgschaft level. It's not in hand yet but will post a picture when it arrives. Angolias states it was worn on the service shirt or the service tunic (I think the service tunic was more for leaders). This was also worn with the seldom seen three pointed pips on the straps.

Thanks Daren

Looking forward to seeing it .

Sorry for jumping in late on this one. I'm reading some 1939 and 1941 regulations concerning the Motor-HJ patch and they state that it was worn on the summer and winter uniforms of the HJ boys and their 'Führerschaft'. The Führerschaft was a lower rank range which stopped at Oberscharführer. The Gefolgschaftsführer was in the next higher rank range of 'Führerkorps' (Leader Corps) so from 1939 at least he wouldn't have worn the patch Joe. I'll try and locate some references for the period prior to that.

The rank range for a Motor-HJ Gebietsinspekteur was Obergefolgschaftsführer to Bannführer.

very interesting my Gebeitsinspekteur insignia had to be worn by a higher level member on a tunic due to the quality of manufacture alone. I also note the examples of this insignia in gold have been shown with a pip in the center denoting a rank level so far unknown

Motor-HJ sleeve patch 'Kraftfahrer'

What do you all think about this one ?

Hi Joe,

Very nice 'type 1' Motor-HJ Kraftfahrer patch. The order introducing these patches was published on the 18th of September 1933 and it describes the patch as follows:
