hi all
was this badge( the one next to the HJ forum logo at the top of the page) originally presented to the member in a box or a packet ?

also was a paper award citation issued ?

if they were can any one recommend :help:a site where i can buy them from.
thanks darren

These could simply be bought at RZM outlets and had to be paid for by the wearer. There were no specific award certificates for the standard membership badge but there were other documents which indirectly had this function. I'm thinking here of the certificates showing successful completion of the 'Pimpfenprobe' for example which was the entrance test for DJ boys. Passing this test entitled the boys, among other things, to wear the membership badge. There was also a similar test for the Jungmädel. As I said though, there is no specific award certificate for the standard membership badge of which I am aware.

hi ewan

gary, was the membership badge presented in a packet or a presentation box ? also where can i buy a 'Pimpfenprobe" ? are there any good sites you can recommend ?
darren

I always imagined a little box full of loose badges in the RZM-approved shop but I can't say for definite how they were sold Darren. Don Scowen may well know more about that.

The Pimpfenprobe certificate I showed is one I used to own but I've seen other designs. You don't see them come up for sale that often though. The later 'Leistungsbuch' had a special field for the Pimpfenprobe. I'll add a pic here once I find it. Couple of minutes....

Here's the page showing (top left) that the boy had passed the Pimpfenprobe test and that he was now permitted to wear the HJ knife, the HJ membership badge and the shoulder strap. These books are fairly easy to find but in my experience it's rare that the Pimpfenprobe field is filled out.

Garry is correct, from what I understand they were shipped from the manufacturer in small brown boxes of 100 badges to a box. Occasionally these boxes do turn up for party badges, although I've never seen one I've always assumed it would be the same for many others including the HJ member's pin.

As a side note, in Munich the stadt museum had a very good exhibition of National Socialism (I think it is still there), & I seem to recall that one of the displays had an original RZM shop card. On this card were various party connected badges with the appropriate number & prices wriiten under each badge. The purchaser simply picked the badge they required.

Cheers
Don

thanks don for the info

Just little more on this. On the 31st of January 1938 Stabsführer Lauterbacher decreed that from that date on there was to be a short ceremony at Gefolgschaft (and eqivalent) level where those who had passed the entrance tests received their membership badges. The intention was that the boys and girls should feel that they had 'made it' rather than just nipping down to the shop and chucking a badge onto their uniforms. There is no mention of a certificate though.

It makes perfect sense that they would have done it this way :thumbup1:

This has just turned up for sale on WAF, a box reputed to have held 1000 pins, with safetypin. I apologise to our German friends if I've translated it wrong :blushing:.

Here are the pix (hopefully).

Cheers

I always wondered would these just be packed loose in the box, tissue wrapped or what? Can't recall ever seeing one in a factory type issue packaging.

That's the kind of box I imagined. Thanks for posting it Don. (Translation was perfect by the way :))

The box looks believable. Party pins were als packed in boxes, but from 100 pieces each instead of 1000. Maybe they put some thin protective paper between each layer. Or it is also possible they were just throwed in the box untill full.
