I also have a hj proficency badge

but instead of a number its marked with a big "B" where the number should be.

anyone know what that means?

the only letter you should have on a badge is `B` which as stated is for a replacement badge, have seen a few badges with no numbers whatsoever

I thought that A,B and C were class designations. Also, can proficiency badges come with no serial number?

They are but this designation is only used in the regulations to distinguish between the three age groups eligible for the badges. These letters do not however appear on the badges. The reason this confusion about the letters exists is down to faulty research by Angolia.

In answer to your second question, yes they would have existed but a badge without a number and without a B (denoting a replacement badge) would not have been issued to a qualified recipient. Blank badges will have come from stock awaiting issue.

Thanks for the info... Angolia was the source of my misinformation. Glad to have that cleared up. Thanks again, Mike
