In early 1937, the motto Blut und Ehre! (Blood and Honor!) began to be etched on early knife blades, but this practice was abolished and later knives were produced with plain blades.

Why was it abolished? I cant find any info on this.

Cheers

hi nick
this was discussed but for the life of me i cant find the thread, anyway the general thoughts where that the motto was removed to cut costs

It has been suggested by many that the motto was discontinued on the knives when the HJ Leaders dagger was introduced.

The motto appeared on some early un-official knives, and then on the standardised fahrtenmesser in 1933, not 1937.
