Hallo,Take a look on the church tower,it's probably the main geographical indication.Good luck :)

@ JoeCool:If you have a bigger version of the first picture, maybe you would be able to read what is written on the front of the building,on the extrem right side

I do not want to spoil it for all the other trackers, scouts and specialists.
I have been in that city when I was about 10 (1975) and again about 10 years ago, but since I travel a lot it was a difficult task, even for me.
And the city is not close to my home, it is about 6 hours away. The arcaded dark building with the flags is the old townhall (Rathaus).
But first let me show you how the place looked in 1942 after a visit by the RAF. The large square in the upper left quater of the photo is the one the people are standing in the photos. The church in the photos is the one at the top of the RAF photo, the church tower is the black round spot.

Well .......... THANKS a FUGIN "LOT" ... ROYAL AIR FORCE !

I wonder if the archway by the river still stands .

No, hardly anything survived, things have changed a lot.
The church and parts of the Rathaus heve be reconstructed.
Many of the old houses were not reduilt.
This is how it looks today. (Boring, although parts of the city itself is still pretty nice.)
I will tell you the name of this city soon.

Is anyone in - for a guess?

Schweinfurt looked pretty much the same after the air raids in October 1943.
But in 1942 everything was still fine.
The city shown in the pictures was bombed in March 1942.
And Schweinfurt is just an hour away from place (Nürnberg).

The city we are looking for is a Hansestadt by the way.

Post war photo .
If anyone knows of someone who lives in or close by Lübeck , Id really like to get see some current photos of where the photographer took the photos of the parade March by the archway near the bridge . I believe this area is the Elbe Lübeck Kanal .
