Nice photo. It is definitely not from 1943 though because the black sidecap for the DJ, for example, was phased out in July 1937. The photo is earlier than that. The wearing of scouting knives was not uncommon but only in the early period. As noted on the HJ knife wiki page, numerous regulations were produced by the RJF to remind kids that they were not allowed to wear them.

Thx, Garry. Cost me alot. Could be 38. Regulations must had some time to kick in. And boys are boys:) Think youre right about is erly periode.

This photo is no way 1943. Nonsense!

This must be an early photo. The older lad is wearing the light-brown
shoulder-straps; the youngest has not even the one. I think the photo
is from about 1933 or latest 1934.

The knife is a look-a-like as the Buschmesser. It is not a Winu-Fahrtenmesser,
and as offered in spring 1933. I have such knives in a sales catalogue from
that period.

Photo is easy to put in a window of time (1934-36) .

1) The HJ visor has the cloth covered brim ( probably the 2nd pattern with piping) worn between 1933-36 .
2) The DJ black sidecap worn between 1934 and 1937 .
