Hi awhile back a member posted an auction link showing a pick of the black landjhar diamond in wear. The album has arrived shows a young man in the HJ from 1934 until what appears to be his death as an officer 1940. Here are two pics of interest from the album hope you enjoy and comment :canada1

Landjahr district leadership

Gumbinnen, 3. July 1940

Dear Herbert Boruschein

We have nothing official about where and how Erich Mandritzki has fallen. From known soldiers in the same regiment and the same company we know this: In Lille on 28 May at 16.30, at a an assault attack [Sturmangriff], Erich got into a machinegun fire and got a shot (another told it was two shots) close to the heart. A former Landjahr conscript from 1936 who was in the same regiment was there and wrote, that Erich soon after the deadly shot, closed his eyes for ever. As they wanted to make a bandage his said something like this: Don’t do that, there is no reason to do so, it is close to the heart. This is all I can inform you of.

Information from Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge (German War Graves Commission):

Erich Mendritzki is burried in the war cemetery in Lommel, Belgium
Grave: Block 42 grave 437
Last name: Mendritzki
Frst name: Erich
Rank: Leutnant
Born: 11.07.1911
Died or missing: 28.05.1940
