I have seen them before. Nice photos!
The right photo is from the roll-call before they leave;
the first is from their return. For a short while the guys
did wear the special badge. I have never found a note
or order they were allowed to continue its wearing.

Maybe Garry knows more about it?!

HJ in Japan 1938

More pictures from this visit in Japan.
I love the one where is Jungbannführer Redeker is on the phone, wearing his badge on the civil jacket.

Hello,
found a picture on my PC with interesting uniformdetails from the uniform which was worn on the Japanfahrt.
This picture was for sale on ebay 2 years ago.

Thanks for sharing these photos.

I like very much the 2 pics in post 1 - because they show the extreme seldom seen white hanger for the HJ leaders dagger :clap2:
I think that I have seen some place, that these white hangers were made only for the Japan-trip, but I am not quite sure, do any of you guys know that ?

Hello,
found one more picture from a member of the Japanfahrt from 1938.
I would say this boy wears a DJ-leader jacket.

Good day Gents,

the Raedecker portrait from post #5 is in my collection. Might be that the seller, who gratefully thought of me, had it from ebay. However, I have it from WAF. I couldn't trust my eyes when I saw the photo for sale - a Bannführer in white uniform with a handwritten dedication on the reverse.

Alois, would you be so good and send me the left photo in post #1 via Email? I have a very very similar photo but can't see it enlarged because I'm neither supporter nor have made the required number of posts in the recent past.
Anyway, on my "similar" photo the white hangers and cross-straps were worn as well but this was an official visit of HJ leaders in Spain. To my information, but I have to admit this is a rumour and I never had any firm proof, the white uniforms were also worn during at least one official HJ visit in Italy.

Italienfahrt 1937

Hello,
here are the 2 other pictures from the same boy. His name was Karl-Heinz Schucht, he also was in Japan 1938.

Thanks, Gary, for letting me know my 'account' is active again. I try to participate a bit more, promised! Not easy with 3 kids and a very demanding job ...

... excuses ...

Alois,

many thanks also to you for posting the Italienfahrt photos! Absolutely great pictures with awfully rare uniform details to see. Allow me (not being an uniform-freak and therefore not knowing) a question: was it common that DJ wore a sidecap in 1938?

As far as I know hardly any of the boys for Japan, Italy or whatever were from the DJ.
For Japan they had to be between 17 and 20 and the length required was 1.70 mtr.
The uniforms were especially arranged!

From my "Japan"-article, published in the "Military Advisor" in the fall of 2005 with
twelve pages.

The boys had to be qualified youth leaders or cadidates from the Braunschweig
academy. Curious was - for Japan - they were not allowed to wear glasses.
Most of the Japan-boys had acquired merits from earlier HJ visits to other
countries as Spain, Italy, Portugal and such.

I think they travel to Nürnberg. In 1938 a group Japanese
youth leaders visioted Germany between early July 1938 and
stayed for three months. They were invited for the annual
Party Day. September 13 these Japanese visitors were
welcomed by Hitler at the "Deutscher Hof" hotel. The Japs
were not the only ones. Over 200 youth leaders from
various foreign countries were Hitler's guests.

Good morning Wim,

Sorry, I mistakingly said 1938 instead of 1937. I was referring to Alois' posts #9 and 10. DJ Boys of the Italienfahrt 1937 were wearing sidecaps. Was it common to wear sidecaps in 1937 or was this just another "special" like the white uniforms for Japan.

Oh, and allow me another question: has there ANY piece of white "Japan" uniform been seen for sale ANYWHERE at ANY point of time?

The occasional photo surfaces here and there, so these items are not out of the world. I appreciate these uniforms had to be returned to the issuing authority. However, items, far rarer than these uniforms have emerged, so why not the uniforms ...

As I said before, the boys for the visit were in the age of 17 and older
and were guys with a leading function in the HJ and DJ. The boys
were not average DJ. I do not know where you got this from? Have a
better look at the shown photos. This are not boys, but younger men,
anyway older then DJ-age!

And yes, it was just a "special", created for the occasion(s). The group
for Japan was not that big. If ever such uniform survived, I have no idea!
I guess they may have been dyed when they were of no use!
