That's bizarre :) Never ceases to amaze me how people got away with stuff like this or indeed what drove them to do it.
 
I think Luftwaffe was that part of the Wehrmacht who used most cloth versions of the different qualification badges.

I like period photos that shows non regulation items being worn .
