NSV-Kinderlandverschickung Usedom 1934

The term Kinderlandverschickung (KLV) was used from the late 19th century for Erholungsverschickung ("recreational deportation") of sick and underprivileged children to foster care in the country. From 1916, the Reichszentrale Landaufenthalt für Stadtkinder (Reich Central Office Country Residence for City Children) coordinated country holidays for city children, usually of around ten to fourteen years of age for a duration of up to three weeks. Around 488,000 children were sent in 1923 and 650,000 in 1934. From May 1933 the responsibility for the scheme was transferred to National Socialist People's Welfare (NSV).

Usedom (German: Usedom, Polish: Uznam is a Baltic Sea island in Pomerania, on the border between Germany and Poland. It is the second biggest Pomeranian island after Rügen and before Wolin.
It is situated north of the Szczecin Lagoon (German: Stettiner Haff) estuary of the River Oder. About 80% of the island belongs to the German district of Vorpommern-Greifswald in the Federal State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The eastern part and the largest city on the island – Świnoujście (German: Swinemünde), belong to the Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship.
With an annual average of 1906 sunshine hours, the island of Usedom is the sunniest region of both Germany and Poland, and it is also the sunniest island in the Baltic Sea. Hence its nickname Sunshine Island (German: Sonneninsel).
