    What might this be?

I found this picture on ebay. The photo itself looks correkt but what puzzels me is the shoulder strap. Wrong side of the shoulder with number(?) written across the board.

He is anyway wearing the shoulder-strap upon the wrong shoulder.
I think it is not a number, but the L for Munich upside down.
Turn you photo upside down and you will see what I mean!

Maybe the photograph was developed wrong and printed obverse,
could that be? I am not a photographer. There are surely specialists
around, that can tell what happened.

    I agree with Wilhelm

Not easy to see on the photo, but the shirt is buttoned the boys way, with the buttonholes on the left side of the shirt opening. Hope you understand what I mean.

I think the shirt looks correct on the picture I posted. The hair style is also the common style, hair is combed from left to right. It was of course on my mind that the picture was developed the wrong way but it does not look so to me.
If there is an L or not on the shoulder board I can not say since I am not experienced enough.

It is a capital letter L. Wilhelm is the expert on this subject. His Handbook of the Hitler-Jugend - Bann Numbers and Gebiet Triangles is a must for any HJ collector ond researcher.

Why the strap is sewn to the wrong side, is not to know.

Original period photos are an excellent source to the irregularities you might find, and probably reject, if you find them out there int the "jungle" of collectors and dealers.

There are numerous examples here on HJ-research.

In Philip Bakers "Some aspects....", page 20 picture 26, 5th boy from the right, one can see that he has his shoulder board on his right shoulder.
On page 23, left column, 2nd section at the end this is also mentioned.
I just read it last night.
So, the picture is correct but the boy has his shoulder board, marked L for München,. on the wrong shoulder.
Good when questions can be solved.
