This kid looks pretty young, but my guess is that he's in the SA. What do you think?

Maybe I am wrong... but in early times, I read that youngs at the age of 18 were "forced" to join the SA after the HJ. Is this correct? (I may have read it in Hitler's Children by Knopp)

    Regards

    Antonio

PS: Maybe (sure) I am wrong.

That's correct Antonio. It wasn't until 1927 that Kurt Gruber received an assurance from von Pfeffer that HJ leaders at least would not automatically transfer to the SA on reaching their 18th birthday. Prior to this all 18 year-olds were transferred to the SA automatically on the 9th of November. This change marked the beginning of the HJ movement's breakout from the control of the SA but it would take another 5 years before Baldur von Schirach was given full control of all national-socialist youth organisations in May 1932. The HJ was formally removed from the SA organisational structure on the 13th of that month.

Later on, were HJ kids strongly encouraged to join the Waffen SS? I read that somewhere on the old forum.

Pat, the kids were being molded to be the new leaders of the future Germany, so most were encouraged to join that organisation and many other party and military affiliated organisations.

Yeap, the SS had long fingers within the HJ. Himmler himself always liked the idea of the Hitlerjugend, seeing on it the potential Future members and expansion of the SS. But also the used dirty tricks to recruit people in der HJ.

The SS always tried to influence the HJ as much as they could, pissing the SA, Kriegsmarine, Luftwaffe off because they also wanted their piece of the cake too.
