Harry Mönnich (born 11.5.20) joined the DJ on the 1st of November 1931 and when his ID document was issued on the 8th of March 1932 he was registered as DJ member number 6081. Nice early ID and I suspect that he would have changed the original photo for this one after attending the Potsdam rally and wanting to show off his badge.

He transferred to the HJ on the 1st of October 1934 and became a Feldscher with Bann 59 Wilhelmshafen-Friesland (Gefolg. 6 Varel) and was part of the HJ medical services at the 1935 Nürnberg rally. He qualified for both the HJ golden honour badge and the tradition stripe but only the tradition stripe award certificate remains with the set. I hope his honour badge and certificate are out there somewhere though.

He was mustered on the 21st of July 1939 and completed his RAD service before joining the Wehrmacht and being assigned to 4.(MG) Kompanie in Inf.Ers.Btl.26. His service took him first to Denmark in 40/41 and then he joined the push to Russia. He remained in theatre and the last entry shows that he was with Gren.Regt 46. when he was killed during fighting in Staraja Russa on the 15th Of March 1943.

Garry,
interesting lot.

I would like to see the page from the Wehrpass with his service in Denmark.

The Inf. Ers. Btl. 26 came to Denmark in June 1940, and was stationed at the Danish army camp "Sögaard-Lejren" in the southern part of Jutland.

The photo is from Sögaard-Lejren 1962.
