    HJ Sparmarkenheft Savings book

Just a little info on these items. On the 25th of September 1940 the RJF ordered that monthly subscriptions were no longer to be paid by HJ members. Previously a subscription stamp had been affixed to the HJ membership ID card but after the above date a new book (Sparmarkenheft) was introduced. The purpose of this book was to encourage Hitler Youth members to save towards the cost of camps, trips and employment training. In exchange for money special stamps of varying value were issued and glued into the savings book as you can see on the pictures below.

The banks entrusted with looking after the money were:

    Deutsche Sparkassen und Giroverband
    Reichsverband der landwirtschaftlichen Genossenschaften
    Postsparkasse (in the occupied territories)

After the introduction date an account was opened for each new entrant into the Hitler Youth.

By the end of the first quarter of 1942 stamps worth a total of over RM1.5m had been issued. The amount of stamps issued in the occupied territories was not far behind this level.
