Hello,

I hope someone is able to help me out. I was send photos from brown
leatherwork, which was said to be HY. But for what was it used when it
indeed was for the HY. I have my thoughts after intensive research,
but is there someone who can tell me more! Maybe Lauri???
Here some photos:

It's just a guess but the straps in the centre of the back appear to be for holding something round so I would think that this equipment was designed to carry a firefighter's compressed air bottle as part of a Sauerstoffschutzgerät.

In brown leather for firefighter's?? It is anyway DRGM stamped and does not have RZM indications.
Bertl59 told me it was named as Sturmgepäck, so a sort of Tragegerüst. A carrying leather for
the back-pack? He could be right, but what has to come on top?

I thought it could be the leather for a Rückentragbahre, but then the sack/bag to hold the litter, is missing?
I do not have a drawing for the HJ, but for the NSKK it was in a regulation (see image).

Hi Wim,

No, I'm not thinking of the HJ-Feuerwehrscharen. It's just that the two horizontal straps on the rear look like they were used to secure something that was cylindrical in shape and I guessed at a compressed air bottle. I looked at some pics of Sturmgepäck straps and although they were not an exact match for yours Bertl could well be right.

I am getting many suggestions, but no final solution yet.
Bertl59 could be right, as I said, but what is the purpose for the
two leather straps, fastened though the middle leather part??

Maybe after all the leatherwork is the first form of Sturmgepäck-Tragegerüst,
and especially for the NSKK. In the manufacturing-regulations from the RZM
from 1936 such equipment was mentioned, but has another look (a new form).
And indeed to the new form also the canteen and other things were fastened
by all kind of leather belts.

I haven't gotten any 100% solution for what it is.
Apparently nobody has an image from a regulation where such leather
was in use. Not a photo where we positively can say: yes, this is it!

I checked "Handbuch für die Hitler-Jugend", part 1 (I do not have part 2).
In this they point into SA regulations, which I checked. Nothing in there
either!
In the "Handbuch der SA" they mention a Tragegerüst mit Halteriemen
in accordance to the Tornister (back-pack). Maybe this Tragegerüst is what
is shown. In the handbook from 1939 there is no drawing. The shown leather
anyway is early.
