Does seem to be in immaculate condition for something over 80 years old. It is a flag that was used indoors and out so to see no wear at all would have me thinking recently made.

Hello,

This bicycle pennant could be original.

It's not dirty, that's not a problem. I've always been most often in doubt with dirty and worn items.

It's machine-woven : if new, such a work must be done a few hundred times to bring the right money... and must be prepaid by the forger :001_smile: ! You should test it under black light and try to find
a thread to burn it.

Best regards

It is a flag that was used indoors.

Indoors does seem not correct. It rather would be a pennant for outdoors,
like a bike, motorcycle or car or when larger as a Jungvolk-Wimpel. Or just
to "promote" the DJ in visible ways.
I would like to know the sizes. Is it small or large? Maybe it was bought for
that purpose, not used while the official pattern with the rune came into being,
and stored for many, many years.

The manufacturing is well done and quite difficult for a forger and a layman
and does bring only money when more were made! It is anyway a skilled-
made item!

I am not convinced by the weaving method.
The point of being clean (could be "kammerfrisch") and the white beeing very white is something else but not my point.
To me it seems that what we see in picture 5 and 6 at the start of this thread is a modern technique.
I have no pre 1945 cloth pieces made by this technique.
Weaving was done differently with cloth insignia till the 1970s, in my opinion.
Have a look at my cloth insignia with the Year 1930 on it.
I hope nobody belives that this was made back than.
It may be about 20 years old.

Wow Maurice, what a wimpel that is! Spectacular. I see the point that Debertex is making also. In hand is sometimes the only way to be sure with flags and wimpels for me. Burn test and UV test can also be useful tools but are not the ultimate determination IMO.

Why do you use such big letters? :) Anyway, in my opinion this pennant could theoretically be old but that is unlikely. Rather than burn it etc just take more photos in natural light first. Camera flash can make old cloth look brand new and such photos do not allow the viewer to make informed decisioins.
