Might be old but might be from the 1950's or 1960's.
You will have to check when this label was used.
The company has been producing instruments since 1875 and still produces drums.
The Sonor label nowadys is different.
Company's homepage has got no historic information.
All in all it looks nice. But I am no yet convinced.

I do hear what you are sying, like the fanfare trumpets, they were made pre war and post war. I had one a few months ago that had a makers mark on it, they used the same logo from 1936 through to 1960. However, it came from a really "top shelf" HJ collector in Europe, it may not prove anything but I know he wouldn't have anything that wasn't period. Whatever way, it's still a rare item to come across, especially in Red :)

Just found a 1932 and a 1936-7 catalogue for Sonor drums in Germany, although it does not show the label, it shows the drum, and some interesting instruments. I'm working to date the label :)

Hello John, is your drum the same size as the one shown as "RJF compliant" on the secondpage of the catalogue?

According to Sonor's catalogues, the font type of the trademark on John's drum, is first used in the 1950's.

Wow, that is what I call research.
:hail: :hail: :hail:
Thank you Henrik. That nails it down.
So this drum was made between 1952 and 1962.
Nevertheless it is a nice drum with a traditional design.

Indeed. Will it be possible to reach an agreement with the seller John?

Nope :(

One of those things really, you believe what people say and take it on face value, especially seeing as he was an "advanced" collector. Oh well, at least it will look nice in the "room" :)

I did write to Sonar, and they said that the label was 49-50ish, so it's only a couple of years out. A few years ago, when we didn't have internet, you'd never be able to find this sort of thing out would you? Just how did we manage to get along............oh wait, we got ripped off by fat rich dealers :)

Yes indeed John. The internet has been a blessing and a curse at the same time. It has enabled people to find information easily and also to share their own research but it has also enabled those with a different agenda to abuse it.

I'm sorry to hear that there is no way of returning the drum...

Everyone's an expert eh :)

Hi John,

I was thinking more about the trolls, dealer shills and sockpuppet account holders on other forums who spread misinformation in order to divert from verifiable facts that might be bad for business.

Hello..I found this drum, what do you think about it?

Greetings from Italy

You "found" it? Did you break into someone's house to take those pictures? ;)

Okay, only one picture of the complete drum but it appears to be a textbook DJ Landsknechtstrommel. Correct construction, correct number of black flames, correct number of holes in the tension rings and as an added bonus, that company didn't make these after 1945, certainly not as "Hess" anyway.
