Really interesting photo! I don't believe that 1/173 was a complete Streifendienst Gefolgschaft. So is this a own flag of AStreifendienst of 1/173 in GF flag size?

Hello,

What I posted is a part of a picture. Now I show you the complete picture (very reduced, by respect for the owner).

This ceremony is the flag handover to the unit by a senior officer. The whole SRD-Gefolgschaft (company) is assembled (police auxiliaries and firefighters).

I do not quite understand what you mean. If a flag is provided with a patch, that means that this unit exists (!). What in some Banne was only a Schar (squad) before, became during the war a Gefolgschaft (company) and as you know, the Feuerwehr-HJ (firefighters) was part of the SRD (SRD : HJ-Streifendienst).

If I remember well, this is the first SRD flag I see...

Best regards

Thank you for sharing these pics. I was wondering if the first GF of this Bann was a Streifendienst GF only. If I remember right, SD GFs were not so usual.

Hello,

the numbering of the units of specialists (Motor-HJ, Flieger-HJ, ect) always starts with the number 1 in their specialty :

1. (Motor-Gef.) / Bann 173
1. (Flieger-Gef.) / Bann 173
1. (SRD-Gef.) / Bann 173
...ect...
and, of course, it is also the same for the basic HJ (Stamm & Allgemeine-HJ) :

1. (Gef.) / Bann 173

On the flags, since 1938 (if I remember well) the speciality is recognizable with the color of the background of the patch and the color of the inscriptions and the braid. Before the colors meant something else.

Best regards

Of course, yes !... and here, the color of the embroidered numbers and the braid on the staps give the speciality.

Sony, you are correct.
Great to see a complete Streifendienst-Gefolgschaft during the handing over of their flag.
A city like Essen possibly will have had even more then one Gefolgschaft.
The unit existed from the patrol and fire brigade service members, as they were one!

Great find. It is indeed the first one on the forum. Also interesting because the corner patch (Spiegel) does not correspond to the regulation. The Spiegel should be white on black. Is the photo dated?
