Hi Guys

What do you think of this HJ?

Could it be a piece by Paul Cramer ?

Hi! Nice looking buckle! What makes you think it's a Paul Cramer buckle? I can't really help you with the maker when it comes to HJ buckles - but I'm sure that Chad might!

Congrats on this pickup! looks like a great buckle!

Hi

Thanks very much for the feedback Rob !:thumb:

I have used "German Belt Buckles 1845 to 1945 - Buckles of the Enlisted Ranks' by Peter Nash pages 292 and 300 as a reference. Page 300 bottom right.

Here are the similarities as I see them :

(1) Elongated neck of the eagle.
(2) The lettering of the motto.
(3) The shape of the shoulders - angular.
(4) The eagles head shape.
(5) The claws are 'diamond' shaped.
(6) The tops of the wings look very similar to me.
(7) The rounded shape of the post top.

I have attached a larger pic of the buckle and drawn some of the focus areas. Forgive the unsteady hand

I'm no expert though so some help is needed to identify this one !!!

Hello and thanks for the pics of this great buckle..
I am not home till tomorrow, but based on the eagle design it is either by Paul Cramer or RS&S . I will check tomorrow and give you a definitive answer. I am in agreement though and lean to Cramer..
Cramer made a ton of these buckles.. they are probably the most plentiful of the unmarked buckles...
thanks
Chad

Hi Chad

I agree - the two makers are very very alike !

This would be my first HJ buckle.

Thanks very much for your comments, I appreciate it greatly :thumb:

Thanks Guys !

I hope you are right ! In fact I know you are - I'm already looking at another one

Collecting the HJ items and reading the history really is a whole new world to learn about and it doesn't break the bank either ! Most enjoyable !
