In 1937 the German school in Copenhagen - Sct. Petri Schule - established a summer camp in Holmstrup near Lumsaas, just at the edge of Sonnerup Skov[ Sonnerup Forrest].

The photo/PC showing the camp was probably taken in connection with the school's inauguration in 1937. Note that they fly both the Danish flag Dannebrog and the German swastika flag.

After the war, the summer camp housed German refugees. As the school subsequently could not afford to continue to operate the summer camp, it was bought by the schools of Frederiksberg municipality, that still have holiday camp here - under the name "Ferie Koloni [Holiday Colony] Holmstrup".

School pupils were mainly Danish children of German-minded parents and Germans working in Copenhagen. The children of the summer camp kept to themselves and were not together with local children.

Outside the season, Hitler-Jugend sometimes lent the camp. At Pentecost in 1939 there was a tragic accident, in which five children drowned, while sailing in an open boat in bad weather. Two of them were brothers, and there were children from the German Embassy among them. Three dead washed up on the beach, and one was caught in fishing trawls. The last drove away, and was first detected long after. A memorial was erected on the beach, but later removed [after the war]. The accident was featured in local newspapers.

19 January 1940: After a reminder, Reichsjugendführung announced that payment of 263 Danish kroner, to cover salvage costs (Bathing Accident in Kopenhagener Hitler-Jugend) would be transferred to the German Legation in Copenhagen.
"Nach Mahnung Mitteilung: Die überweisung von Bergungskosten in Höhe von dkr 263.- (Badeunglück der Kopenhagener HJ) an die Deutsche Gesandtschaft in Kopenhagen erfolgt."
