A quick question that I cant seem to find the answer to in my books.

Were there any female members of the Streifendienst?

Cheers

Nick

I never heard of female in the Streifendienst, but mabey in the late years? like BDM i Combat?

I would asume that the HJ Streifendienst (boys) also controlled the BDM/JM as when it was mostly utilized to keep order at political functions like rallies and parades etc ...that is for the most part pre-war .

Joe is correct Nick. The Streifendienst was all-male. The BDM came within its jurisdiction. See posts 6, 7 and 8 below for info on a proposed female SRD.

BDM-Einsatzdienst (proposed female version of the HJ-Streifendienst)

The BDM did on occasion assist the Streifendienst and the police Nick but there was never a BDM-Streifendienst. In fact, such an organisation was expressly forbidden in the regulations as was the issue of temporary or full SRD ID cards to girls called in to assist the SRD in activities such as escorting girls home who had been discovered somewhere they shouldn't have been. There were plans drawn up in 1939 to introduce a BDM-Einsatzdienst which would indeed have been comparable to the HJ-Streifendienst if it had come to anything but the plan was shelved.

The SRD did not have the same powers in their dealings with the BDM as they had with members of the HJ.

The reference for the proposed creation of the BDM-Einsatzdienst is the book 'Die Hitler-Jugend, Selbstverständnis und Augabengebiete' by the former BDM-Reichsreferentin Jutta Rüdiger 1998 4th edition p63

'...an instruction from the BDM-Reichsreferentin issued one day before the outbreak of war ordered the creation of a BDM-Einsatzdienst along the lines of the HJ-Streifendienst but the order was never implemented'.

BDM-Streifendienst (BDM-Einsatzdienst)

I found more exact information on the proposed creation of a BDM-Sreifendienst so in the interest of completeness here are the details:

As mentioned in post #7, BDM-Reichsreferentin Jutta Rüdiger laid down the details for the creation of the BDM-Streifendienst (BDM-Einsatzdienst) in a letter dated 31.8.1939. In it she describes the purpose and responsibilities of the new organisation. A transcript of the letter can be found in the book "Auch Du gehörst dem Führer" by Gisela Müller-Kipp 1989 Juventa p51

Reichsbefehl 3/K dated 23.9.1939 shows that her plan never materialised. Instead, the responsibilities of the BDM-Einsatzdienst were restricted to administrative support work for the police.

It is interesting to mention in the Rüdiger-book it is said:
The HJ Streifendienst was meant for the BDM also, while males were
better in solving difficult problems (weil männlichen Angehörigen des
Streifendienstes besser mit "schwierigen Elementen" fertig wurden)!

That's right Wim and of course those difficult elements became even more difficult to control with each passing year.
