"The volunteers were to be recruited from those born during the first half of 1926. Minimum height for the infantry : 170cm,for the communications,Panzer and Motorcycle units, in exceptional cases if boys had had special training, 168cm. (The minimum height for LAH was 180cm). The boys had to be fit for active service and should have been, preferably, in possession of the HJ Achievement badge"

The Reichsjugend leadership had to provide 30,000 Hitler Youths from among whom those qualified would be selected by the replacement officers of the Waffen SS. Those boys who were in vocational training had to complete it.

All those found fit for service has to serve a six week period in a Wehertuchtigungslager (pre military training camp)

The Division required 840 Fuhrer and 4000 Unterfuhrer. In order to fill the Fuhrer positions , 600 HJ leaders serving in the field and reserve units of the Waffen SS as non- commissioned Fuhrer and men were to be pulled out and brought together for a Fuhrer course. Those who could not pass the course would be used as non- commissioned Fuhrer in the HJ Division.

So on 1.6.1943 the "Baby Division" was born, just a year before they "cut their teeth" on D-Day :scared:

Cheers

Nick
