Hi chaps,

do you have any idea who's on this official photo of the Reichsjugendführung?
The one on the left is Stabsführer Lauterbacher. The man on his right is probably a leader of a Gebiet (two lines on his Gebietsdreieck, not RJF). But the others ...? Any suggestions are highly appreciated. Thanks.

I can't help with names either at the mo but yes, great photo. Do you know where/when this was taken Jack?

Thank you Garry and kriegsmodell.
Unfortunately, there is no further information given (though before August 1940 - a conclusion you can draw because of Lauterbacher still being Stabsführer ...).
Just a stamp mark on the backside, and that's it.
It looks like a camp, but not for the common people, with those luxury tents and garden or camping furniture.

Nice. The chap second from right looks familiar. Hopefully some cross-references will show up at some point.

I hope so too, Garry. Seems to be more difficult than expected.

Here's another - private - photo, one level lower: Not one but two Gebietsführer at the main entrance of a Wartheland Gebietsführerschule/Leadership School.

I can add:

We can see at HJ leaders dagger om the pic, therefore the pic must be from 1937 or later.

I don't know if it helps, but when we research, I think that everything matters. :yo:

Thanks Michael,
of course this helps. It restricts the time frame and thus the number of candidates.

I have about 15 candidates left, leaders of RJF Ämter and so on. But it's very difficult to find some comparison pictures of most of them.

If someone is interested in the names in the second picture, here they are: first one on the left is Hauptbannführer Oskar Bartsch, no. 4 Gebietsführer (Warthegau -January 1940, and then Gebietsinspekteur der RJF) Werner Kuhnt, no. 5 Gebietsführer Hans Schmitz (Kuhnt's successor in Warthegau). This private photo was taken at the main entrance of the beautiful Raczynski palace in Rogalin (renamed 1940-45: Eichenhain) which was used as Gebietsführerschule at that time. The picture is dated 12 June 1940.
I went several times there in the 90s - but without knowledge of the war history of that palace. The heavy wooden doors with the Raczynski coat of arms (in the background of the picture) are still there ...

Hi Jack,

Far right, Helmut Möckel (RJF-Stab and Gebietsführer Sachsen 1938-40) and second from right Hubert Meiforth (Gebietsführer Nordmark 1937-1939 and 1942-45) (y)

Great to have those two cleared up. Thanks Garry.
On the far left is Stabsführer Lauterbacher (you can spot his 2 pips quite well).

If we revive this thread, I also have something to add to the second picture.
The one with the Wartheland Gebietsführung in Eichwalde/Rogalin. This year the doors have opened and I can show you a few impressions from inside. Particularly impressive: the newly restored and reopened library. However, the brief period of the HJ occupation is not mentioned at all, and so my documents of the time have remained where they were.

That guy far right in my pic is Gebietsführer Schmitz whose signature is to be seen on the backside.

Yep, spotted Lauterbacher :thumb: The seated guy's face also rings a bell so we may be able to nail him.

Very cool that you actually visited the Gebietsführerschule Jack. Have you ever viewed the Gebietsführung in Posen by any chance? I see from Gebiet 38 orders that the address given is as follows:

1940: Kurfürstenring 2-3, Posen (now Al. Niepodległości)
1941-1944: Dr. Wilms Strasse 53 (now Matejki)

The first house number doesn't seem to exist according to maps but there are some old buildings down that road. The second one (assuming the house numbers are the same as when the street was called Dr. Wilms Str.) looks like this today:

It would be great to see a period photo of the Gebietsführung.

Hi Garry,

That's crazy. Yes, I was also in Posen for a day, including Wilson Park and the Palm House in the street in question.

Aleja Niepodległości (Independence Avenue) must have been the Kaiserring or, after 1939, the Wall, a main street more than 2 kilometers long, on which, among other things, highly representative buildings such as the Philharmonic Hall, parts of the university and also the Kaiser's residential palace (Residenzschloß), later the Führerresidenz and Gauleiter's residence too, are located.
Of course, I was also inside and made photos of it. I particularly remember very impressive staircases in a mixture of Art Nouveau and 1930s brachial style, the throne of Wilhelm II and an elevator from 1943, made in Berlin. If I had to give a guess, I would have assumed that the HJ Gebietsführung was also in this huge building.

I'll see if we can narrow down the location a bit using the house numbers.
Maybe I can go looking again next year.
