If it wasn't an original photo, we wouldn't believe it. This boy really does have the SS eagle on his cap. In the later years of the war, people sometimes used whatever badges were on hand due to a shortage. I don't think this is a member of the NPEA - but it's not out of the question. The eagle is in the shape that appeared after 1935 - there's probably not much more to say about the photo. What do you think? In any case, another photo that shows us what was possible in the Third Reich.

I have seen numerous late-war orders telling youth commanders to stop boys from wearing Kriegsmarine, Luftwaffe etc insignia so I think something like this kid's cap badge is probably more to do with him wanting to appear a bit "gung-ho" for the photo as opposed to there having been a non-availability of the correct youth insignia. Nice and interesting photo.

so now and then one sees eagles worn, which were officially not for HJ.
But as Garry says. Kids wanted to show-off sometimes.
