Also could someone tell me why he had the silver and not the bronze aswell. I would expect you would have to first make the bronze grade before you could go for the silver, or was there some other way to go.

Here is another small BDM grouping. Looks like she was awarded her BDM Leistungsabzeichen in Bronze on the 18th December 1942. Nothing special about her Kennkarte other than I like the fact that both pictures match.
It's cool that the award certificates for the JM and BDM in silver...
The introduction of the bronze and silver BDM achievement badges was announced in Verordnungsblatt 132 dated the 3rd of May 1934 but something that always bothered me was the fact that so few of the silver would seem to have been awarded. The numbers on all original badges I've seen up to now...
a nice set of prophicency patches included are the DJ badge and the black, bronze and silver HJ badges

just wondering why was there cloth dj and hj versions but no jm or bdm cloth versions?

The Potsdam badge in silver was the one worn by those who had been active participants on the day. The bronze version was available for purchase by spectators/non-participants1,2 and was also sold prior to the event...
So, we're looking for the lowest and highest badge numbers out there. I've divided these into serial numbers on badges that have survived and also serials for badges for which only the supporting paperwork exists.
