The color variation appears to be from different shades of leather used for the jackets to me.

BDM? I guess they are Jungmädel (10 up to 14).
Leather? These jackets were never made from that material, always
from Velveton (a sort of velvet). This one can find in the RZM
manufacturing regulations from 1936 and so on, as well as in:
Bekleidung und Ausrüstung der HJ from 1934.

According to specifications a few % in color difference was allowed.
This I have read somewhere in RZM information.
About color-differences, see this photo from February 1934 from
Aschaffenburg after these youngsters have sworn the oath.
