Hello all
Please take a look at these photos I have just got in. I recognise the Arrow cross Hungary glags and armbands but anymore information, I am stuck. I do not know where these photos were taken and the reason behind the gathering. The date on the reverse is 26.ii.44, does the ii stand for 2 (so February) or is it 11?
Very late war photos, which some photos have writing on the reverse.
Any help finding out the history behind these photos & maybe a name of one of the HJ leaders would be amazing !

Nice. Attachment 5 in your first post is RJF Stabsführer Helmut Möckel (on the left). They appear to be either in Hungary or the hungarian boys are attending some event/course within the Reich. This was just three months before Möckel's death. I can see the ranks of Gebietsführer and Oberbannführer mentioned but I can't decipher a lot of the handwriting unfortunately. I'm sure we'll get more names and possibly the actual occasion depicted on these photos.
 
The back of the last photo in post 2 gives the location but I can't read it. Jack is good at that though so hopefully he'll see the thread.

As for the dating: Garry is right. This is November, only a quarter of a year before Möckel's death. Some wrote the 1 with an i-dot as an i, but never the Roman I.
So it is 11 - November.

Nickel ist obviously Hbf. Siegfried Nickel, b. 1913,
Chef der Dienst-/Befehlsstelle Osten der RJF und Hauptabteilungsleiter für die Jugendarbeit
in den besetzten Ostgebieten im Amt Bauerntum und Landdienst der RJF

Eger is mentioned as the location - either the small town north-east of Budapest (German: Erlau) or the town in the Sudetenland (Czech: Cheb)

So the owner of these pictures (ich) was the elderly Wehrmacht officer, as in post 2, 3rd picture, 3rd from the left.

In my opinion, Eger (Erlau) is out of the question. The defensive battle of Budapest was in full swing. And this also took place near Eger at the end of November 1944. And I cannot imagine that parades were held during the defensive battle.

Therefore, I think the pictures were taken at the air base in Eger (Cheb) in the Czech Republic. There is evidence of an aircraft hangar and a Messerschmitt Bf109 in the background. There are also air force officers present.

The Hungarian flag bearers are members of the Pfeilkreuzler.

*21.06.1909 in Bielau near Zwickau
+1945 fatal accident

- studied economics and education at the Technical University of Dresden
- then political science at the University of Vienna
- volunteered for the Air Force in 1939 and was trained as a fighter pilot (Jagdflieger)
- received the goldenes HJ-Ehrenzeichen on 12.03.1938
- was subsequently awarded the Ritterkreuz zum Kriegsverdienstkreuz

1930 Joined the NSDAP
1930 Co-founder of the local group and the Dresden district of the NS-Lehrerbundes Association
1933 Appointed to the Gebietsführung in Saxony
- 1933 Training, press and propaganda work
- 1934 Stabsleiter in the Gebietsführung
1936 Appointed to the RJF in Berlin, head of the working committee for home procurement in the RJF
1938 Retained duties in the RJF, also leader of the Saxony region
1940 Appointed Stabsleiter of the HJ
1941 Axmann joined the Wehrmacht, Möckel was appointed his authorized representative for a short time



Even if it has nothing to do with the HJ, another addendum to the General ?Popow?Popov?Pozov?
In one picture you can see the General. He is wearing the coat that was introduced in 1943 for the Red Army Air Force. However, this cannot be a Soviet officer. Therefore, I assume that this general belongs to the Wlassow-Armee (Russische Befreiungsarmee). But this theory should be confirmed by a uniform expert!

Unfortunately there is nothing about Möckel's father, neither his first name nor his profession.
And since there were 1148 households in Vielau (1924) and as many as 30 Möckels, many of them miners, but also a police constable and an assistant teacher, it is unfortunately not possible to trace this any further at the moment.
