Hj Flieger sidecap

Hello, I came across this HJ Flieger side cap. The description says its around 1938, but I am not really happy with the metal diamond. Is this correct or should it be a cloth diamond instead? Many thanks for looking, Andreas.

Hi again , here is a photo from the side and I think it shows that this stile is not an 1938 side cap , more likely a 1941/1942 side cap . So my thinking is that instead of having a metal diamond there should be woven cotton one. I think some of the old stitch marks shows that there was a cotton diamond once.
Why am I so crazy about the "wrong" diamond ? ,it is because this cap is for sale on a big sellers online site and I think he should know better.
Am I wrong or does anyone agree with me ?

That's correct. The cloth diamond was introduced from Jan 1940:

Hi guys, just hoping someone can answer this one for me. When was the cloth eagle introduced on these caps? I seem to remeber that it was rank-related ie only those with (or above) a certain rank were allowed to wear it? Also, when was the metal diamond on the cap replaced by the cloth version?

For a cap that can be identified as having a production date after that point it would, as you say, be preferable to have the cloth diamond attached as opposed to a metal badge that anyone could have added - at any time.

Judging by the first photo, it looks to me like a membership badge more than it does a capbadge - the membership badge is with the "safety pin arrangement" and the capbadge is with 2 prongs. As Garry writes " anyone could have added - at any time."

I just found a thread by Ewan from 2023 "The Red RZM was only on early caps before 1939, 1940 0nwards had the brown coloured RZM, see photos in your other post."
This means to me that this H.J.Flieger side cap can't be 1938 as stated by the seller. It had originally a cloth diamond which was taken off for what ever reason and then replaced with an membership diamond badge.
Does it make sense to have this H.J.Fliegercap in your collection , or is it to wrong altogether ? I'm still looking for one , so if anyone has a propper one for sale .....
