Interesting! What is your father's history?
He was with the 74th combat engeneers. They built pontoon bridges and on occasions ferried troops a cross rivers in boats. Prior to going to Europe his unit helped build the Alcan highway. He was also in the battle of the bulge.

Information such as this helps ground us to reality. I think it is easy sometimes to forget that the items we collect were worn and brought back by real individuals...boys and young men.
