I assume many of you will have seen this photo before as it's freely available on-line, but for the life of me I cannot identify the rank. It seems at first glance to maybe be a Gefolgschaftsführer from the lanyard but I'm am not sure. The straps seem like they are a Rottenführer's, but maybe it's actually two pips across and he's a Scharführer? I would have though though that he looks far too old to be a Rottenführer, especially dressed as he is (and with the "old member stripe" and his apparent party membership). The cuff title seems to say HJ-Streifendienst (and the caption from whence the photo comes says he's a “Hitler Jugend Security Officer”). Any ideas?

the book might be available somewhere (maybe I could provide one), but do your really think a photographer
wrote down all the names from persons he ever made photos from? No, the name of the guy is not known!

I don't mean his name; I mean what his rank is, like I asked in my first post.

Huh; I had dismissed the possibility that he was a DJ leader as I didn't realise one could have a HJ-Streifendienst cuff title in the DJ. I suppose I've never actually understood how the division of ranks worked—were DJ leaders in the HJ proper before they became leaders? Did they have a senior HJ rank as well? Once they became a leader could they stop being one and rejoin the “main” HJ stream? Could a DJ leader become a HJ leader? Or were they fixed?

From looking at service records, it seems almost like if DJ pimpfs became DJ-führers straight on and were stuck with the 10- to 14-year-olds. Then surely they would miss out on the more advanced military training in the HJ proper...? Unless DJ leaders mingled and participated with the older HJ as well.

Thank you though for the picture; very helpful.
