I came across this visor which is coming up to auction soon (Raitsbons) & the current bid is over $1000.00 & I was wondering why so high, Is it because of the color of the piping or just a bidder who really wants it as the condition is not that great with mothing etc. I did a web search and it seems to me to be high for one of these visors & it will more than likely go higher by auctions end. I did see one one here but it had a cloth visor & looked to be in excellent condition & not leather like this one.

Yes, I would also say Oberbann 3 service hat of the type with black peak authorised for the technical units (Motorsportscharen, Lufsportscharen, drivers) from Sept 1934.

That peak is a bit odd though. Instead of having a regulation matte black leather peak it seems to be the cloth peak (see here for an Oberbann 5 version with cloth peak) which has been treated with some black substance - possibly by the boy who originally wore it in order to save money on buying a new hat once the 1934 order came out? Here's one with a matte leather peak: HJ Visor help

Hi everyone,

I think you are wrong, this HJ visor cap is that of the Landjahr.
A well-known dealer in Germany had sold this Sommermütze a few months ago. The description already matched to " Landjahr ".

Best Regards
Eric

Hi Eric,

Landjahr green was certainly used on the later Dienstmütze but not, as far as I can tell, on these early types which is why I'm thinking Oberbann 3. Certainly in 1936 there was no green cord noted for headwear worn by Landjahr members (see 1936 RZM p119).

Garry, I believe you are correct about the visor not being leather, also no tag here are some additional pictures of the inside of the hat. The bid is up to $1410.00 now. I still do not understand the high bids.
