Hello everyone, this is my first post in this subject matter forum. I am an advanced collector in firearms, period antiques to 1960s. Not so much in edge weapons. Of course, before me was my dad and on his passing in inherited what he had. When looking for something else entirely i came across this knife, which i knew existed but had forgotten about completely. My dad was referring to it as a HJ knife so in my efforts towards a positive ID i looked in that direction, on the internet and in a reference book: Edge Weapons of the Third Reich 1933-1945 (FJ Stevens). The similarities with a HJ knife are there, but at the same time sufficiently different that I am wondering if the knife isn't from a similar but different Third Reich paramilitary organisation.
There are remnants of a RZM stamp in the blade but the numerals are almost completely worn off. The blade itself seems to have been sharpened to the point of losing some of its distinctive shape. The ricasso is either blank of has been wiped of any stamps. I am of the opinion that the horn-shaped quillion of the guard has been ground off. The grip panels are made of hardwood, not of the black checkered plastic that seems to be a standard characteristic. The period at which my dad would have taken possession of the knife would have been immediate post war in formerly occupied France.
I have taken photos of the knife in question. If someone could find the time to look at them and tell me what it is I would be grateful.
