Very nice collection !
I had never seen the one in Volklingen.
Why were the other numbers (in front) removed on the “Kleve”cufftittle ?

THANKS ! That's a good question..... I don't know! And it doesn't seem to me that the figures have been disjointed... If anyone has an answer, I'm interested.

Wow, a nice collection. Not often seen in this size.

They are not cuff titles, but cap bands actually.

Nice collection. A couple points: the gold lettered 3/6 Berlin tally is controversial. A few of these have listed for sale by Weitze with no takers last time I checked. I will review my files to post them here soon.

The 8 Kleve 1/238 tally has a simple but unexplained answer. The 1/23 part of the one side have been removed, thread by thread. Who knows why, and I have a couple like that. It just happens. It is a good tally and originally had the full inscription on both sides.

Let me find those Weitze tallies and I will get back to you. Again, nice collection. John

Merci pour l'explication John ! J'ai hâte d'en savoir plus sur Berlin.
Cordialement.
Alex

Still trying to find the other one, think it was 1/6 Berlin 1/6

It appears that with both, somebody took a yellow marking pen to the white letters. Who knows why.

Here is a tally I own that has a missing diagonal stripe, just like the one above, somebody removed it for unknown reasons.

My only guess about the yellow marker is that somebody thought that the lettering should be gold, not white. Some black MHJ tallies do have gold letters, but there are not many of those and no blue-ribbon tallies have gold letters. However, navy tallies have gold wire, gold cotton and gold cellon threads, so maybe whoever did this thought those Berlin MHJ tallies should have been gold or looked better with gold, who knows? Again, this is just speculation on my part, but I can think of no other reason to stain the white letters gold.

Then I would also like to introduce my hat band. Unfortunately it has been shortened.

Thank you all for the publication on this little-known and little-exploited subject.
Here is my little contribution , Diedenhofen was in West-Westmark (actually in France /Moselle)

Incidentally, in 1936 the RZM still urged cautious (moderate) production and stock-keeping of tallies due to the small quantity required for a single Marine-HJ unit (20 - 30 pieces).

Good day Gents,

after having been absent due to personal reasons for almost 8 years I apologize for the long break. Despite even having lost interest in our beloved hobby for a couple of years, I luckily re-discovered the beauty and passion in it!
Some wonderful tallies you are showing here, of some the origins and the previous owner was known to me very well. Also the yellow died Berlin tally was already discussed on the forum earlier on. Thanks for giving the MHJ tallies a revival!!! Let's keep the ball rolling - what other tallies have other users in their vaults? Dig them out - I would love to see them!!!

Rgds

Daniel
