I would like to introduce you to one of the rarest shoulder boards of the Marine HJ.
This pair was embroidered with the plastic thread cellophane and is for the small Reichsbann - Bann Seefahrt.

Maybe a stupid question, but was there a higher rank than Bann Leader after the Bann Leader? Because it wasn't an area but a ban. Maybe even a Oberbann Leader. Maybe Garry or another member has an answer to that.

Hi Steve,

No, there was no Gebiet leadership above it. The two Banne were subordinate to the RJF's Organisationsamt/Organisation Office (1939). At the time, the leaders were for Reichsbann Binnenschiffahrt (BS), based in Berlin, Obergefolgschaftsführer Erich Loeffert and Reichsbann Seeschifffahrt (S), based also in Berlin, Oberbannführer Friedrich Schumacher. During the war, both Banne were subordinate to the Amt für Wehrertüchtigung, which belonged to RJF Hauptamt II.

Wow, you really do have some nice items in your collection :001_cool:

I found a little more on the background of this Bann in my stuff. What would later become Reichsbann Seefahrt started out in 1936 as Gefolgschaft Seefahrt within Marinebann 202 in Hamburg. Within a couple of years the membership had grown to 700 boys who were now organised within Bann Seefahrt. This Bann was superceded by Reichsbann Seefahrt in 1938 and placed under the control of the RJF Auslandsamt - presumably because these were boys who were working on ships that sailed to foreign countries. As Jack says, the Reichsbann subsequently came under the control of the RJF Organisationsamt and later the Amt für Wehrertüchtigung within Hauptamt II.

Bann Seefahrt (not Reichsbann Seefahrt) was initially subordinate to Gebiet 26 Hamburg. In Sept 1937 RJF Stabsführer Hartmann Lauterbacher, looking towards a proper integration of the Bann into the overall structure of the RJF, placed it under the control of the Grenz- und Auslandsamt of the RJF and the headquarters of the Bann was moved from Hamburg to Berlin. The Bann was divided into three Unterbanne with Unterbann I Elbe being located in Hamburg. The other two were Unterbann II Weser-Ems in Bremen and Unterbann III Ostsee in Stettin.

Bann Seefahrt was restructured in 1938 and with an official date of 1.4.1938 the RJF announced the creation of Reichsbann Seefahrt which consisted of three Stämme that took on the numbers, names and locations of the previous Unterbanne.

I haven't found any names of leaders of Reichsbann Seefahrt other than Obergefolgschaftsführer Heinz Stange whose appointment was rescinded in RJF Amtliches Nachrichtenblatt VII/6 dated 5.4.1939. Where did you find Oberbannführer Friedrich Schumacher listed Jack?

I found this in Buddrus, p. 1079, Garry. It's also in Schumacher's short biography, p. 1211f.,

A great picture and it's a shame that it's not in our book. Unfortunately we couldn't find a support image for this triangle.

How to find such rare items, Steve? I never have seen these shoulder straps before . Soon you can open a Hitler Youth museum and sorry, but you definitly need to work on your second book about HJ shoulder straps. :first: :001_tt1:

Hello Michael,
the flaps are from a private owner and they are certainly very rare and the only pair I know of.
As for the triangle, and then both of them together is amazing.
