Hello everyone,

I recently picked up this small grouping to an RJF Stab member. It includes some great photographs.

Is there any way to find out his name? I’d also love to identify the numbers on the board in his portrait photograph. It looks as though the number begins with a 2, and I believe the group may be from Hessen-Nassau, based on a stamp on the back of one of the photographs.

If anyone spots any other details, I’d really appreciate your thoughts. Thank you.

Interesting set. I’ve done my best, but I wouldn’t want to go beyond a safe ‘2’ as the first digit.

The Bannführer appears in different photos as RJF-Stab and as the Bannführer of a Bann. The reverse of one of the photos shows that we might be able to connect this chap to Gebiet 13 Hessen-Nassau. My Bann leader project shows a Bannführer who was in charge of Bann 253 in Gebiet 13 from 1935 until 1.6.1939 when he took a post on the RJF-Stab. I'm fairly sure that I can see 253 on his shoulder strap. If I am correct then this is Bannführer Ivo Nastold.

That's great. Garry the effort and work you're putting into this topic is incredible. Many thanks.

I'm always looking. If information is out there I'll find it eventually ;)

Hmm... In May 1940 HJ-Bannführer Ivo Nastold was Führer des Bannes 488 (Budweis).

Regards,
Igor

Yes, my leader list shows him as the Bannführer of Bann 488 from 1.6.1939 to August 1940 when he began his Wehrdienst (KIA 26.6.1941).

However, he was on the RJF-Stab by virtue of that appointment because the Protectorate Böhmen-Mähren where his new Bann was located was an Auslandshilfsstelle within the RJF command structure.

I have a source showing that he went to RJF-Stab in June 1939 upon leaving Bann 253 and a source from 1940 again confirming that he was RJF-Stab whilst in command of Bann 488:

Der Führer des Bannes Budweis (488) gez. Nastold, Bannführer i. St. d. RJF

i. St. d. RJF =
im Stabe der RJF (on the Staff of the RJF).
