Good morning from sunny Scotland,

Well really it s pouring of rain lol. But I am having a good week, and with the help of Bert159 many thanks again, I managed to increase my early DJ rune collection.
See the photo below of my DJ early runes plus others and my Bevo runes. Enjoy.

I truly enjoy collecting DJ items mainly arm runes, belt buckles and badges and tinnies.
But as you can see from my Bevo runes collection I am still missing a used/off the uniform DJ OB 6 arm rune. If you have one for sale ? or you know of where there is one for sale ? or any other DJ items you think may be of interest please Inbox me. Thank you.

Hi Ewan, you've put together a great collection over time. I used to have a lot of DJ arm patches, but it all became too much for me and I settled on epaulettes and arm triangles. I think 2 or 3 patches even made their way from my collection into yours. Keep it up and if something comes up, I'll think of you.

I just bought an early DJ rune patch from one of the members of this forum (many thanks to him :thumbup1: ) – red rune on green - and I already had one with a white rune on green.

As far as I can see they are both called “early Oberbann 3” – but there must be a more detailed explanation, why is one with a red rune and the other with white?

Both runes are also depicted in post 1 from Ewan, so maybe you have a more correct name for the 2 runes, Ewan ? - or other members too ?

Since I made my first post (post 8) about my 2 DJ runes I have spent quite a few hours looking through all the threads on the forum to see if there was any help to be found there – and I have found something. I have also used my books on the subject + searched the internet.

The green with white rune is not an Oberbann 3, but a Pre 1934 DJ Obergebiet Mitte - Gebiet Sachsen.

This is based on the fact that the colors from SA are used on early HJ shoulder straps and DJ runes according to information on the HJ forum, professional books, etc.

I have an overview of the colors on the SA collar patch from 1931, and it says that Sachsen had a green collar patch and white Collar Patch numbers – so it fits perfectly.

Green collar patch and red collar patch number were the colors that Gau Nord - Nordmark had – so it also fits perfectly.

Conclusion: If I have interpreted it correctly, my DJ runes are both pre-1934 editions from Obergebiet Mitte - Gebiet Sachsen and Obergebiet Nord - Gebiet Nordmark.

What do you, dear forum members, say about my conclusion?

I’ve only found a few references over the years, and still haven't found the one for the red rune on a blue background
 
Red rune on blue is after SA colorlist 1931 Hessen-Nassau- Sud (South)

I simply can't let this thread go – there must be a way to move forward, so I'm giving it a try.

It is stated in several places that the six *Oberbann* badges were introduced in 1934; these feature a square tan background.

In many places, badges lacking the tan background - but with colors corresponding to the six *Oberbanne* - are described as early *Oberbann* badges.

I cannot find documentation to support my theory that badges without the tan background do not relate to the six *Oberbanne*, but rather to the *Gaue* into which the SA was divided. This would also explain why there are so many badges featuring colors other than those of the six *Oberbanne*.

This badge is not an early *Oberbann* 4 badge, but a pre-1934 badge from Hessen-Darmstadt, München-Oberbayern, Oberpfalz-Niederbayern, or Schwaben.

If you look at all the badges without tan backgrounds shown in this thread, they all appear in the table below - which I made based on the 1931 SA list. With the sole exception of the one in post #1 featuring a red disc and a white *Siegrune*.

Does anyone have any original material that could confirm my theory? I am unable to document it myself.

You are correct on the colours used for the very early rune patches. Here's an excerpt from the book "Aufbau Abzeichen NSDAP" from 1933. It contains a mixture of information from 1932 and 33 as follows:

A 1933 reference shows how it worked for the HJ and DJ in the case of Minden-Ravensberg. Obviously that is in Westfalen which used red on white. The reference states:
