I bought this a couple of years ago thinking the lad third from the left is wearing a DJ HORDENFÜHRER chevron. Opinions?

Yes, Hordenführer.
Here's some background for anyone who may not know about this insignia: this rank (along with the new rank of HJ-Rottenführer) was introduced on 4.7.1935. It was given to boys who performed consistently well and who were model members of the HJ/DJ. Minimum requirements for DJ Rottenführer were:
2 years membership of the DJ
From 1.10.1936 boys were required to have taken part on a DJ-Lager
The two ranks were not command ranks but more an appointment.
Initially the insignia was worn on the lower left arm but as part of new uniform regulations in 1938 (including the introduction of the circular rank patches for Oberhordenführer, Jungenschaftsführer etc) the position of the Rottenführer insignia was changed to the position you can see on the photo.
