Thanks Wim, very interesting.
I'd like to read this article and will try to get a copy.
Hardly anyone knows those small groups beyond Luftwaffen- and Marinehelfer as the Transporthelfer you mentioned, a very coveted position. They escorted material by train or by plane (!), mostly wearing HJ uniform (sometimes even with a handgun) and provided with special ID cards, or did messaging services.
There were the Forschungshelfer (scientific research helper, after November 1944) - having at least a "gut" (mark B) in science subjects for being trained to become "Forschungsnachwuchs Großdeutschland" at a special school in Wurttemberg which started on 1 March 1945 - a bit late ...
The Fronthelfer for "Operation Bartold" are another example, lead by the NSDAP in the Breslau area between August and December 1944. The aim: to establish a line of defense. Their unform: heeresgrau (grey), without Tressen (laces) but also without the HJ armband. They had always to stay in there, and could "enjoy" a censorship of letters.
Forget anything? Maybe the HJ-Schnellkommandos, a type of police helpers (runners).
(Maybe this thread meanwhile should be moved to 1939-45, Garry

?)
