Guys,

...Burn test...

I also always wondered about these sport attendant cuff titles.
I'm going to burn mine tonight.

I also plan to burn my gefolgschaft standard bearers insignia.

Could someone briefly go over the process and the pass/fail criteria?

Darin, I think that the embroidered one (see pictures) is a fake.

Lenght of the cufftitles

When introduced, the cufftitles were worn on the full circumference of the sleeve but as the war (and his restrictions) was there they have to be worn only as a small strip.

Yes Fernand I am in agreement with you, I normally don't like embroidered HJ insignia. There are probably embroidered pieces that are genuine, but I personally don't like them.
 
I have never seen a full length cuff title of this type in a period photograph . However ; I have seen a few photos of the short version in wear.
 
On page 3 of Detlevs update today is a yellow title with document, this is about the same length as Ken Jaspers green one.. see how even though it is cut shorter it is still a good bit longer that the usually seen close cropped ones, notice on the right hand side of the title, it is tucked underneath a bit too..

For the burn test, tease out one thread off the end of your insignia, and apply a match to it, (I always dampen it at the bottom to prevent the flame going too far down :scared::cursing:) it should flame and leave ash behind, if it melts back on it's self in a blob or leaves no ash, then the material is synthetic nylon like material generally believed post war, passing this test is not 100% proof of originality, in that some fakes have been produced with proper materials, for example the BEVO type Sub war badges pass this test, but they are considered bad and from the 70's. However it is a pretty good indicator if it fails.

I have 2 complete sets of these .

I tried the burn test on all 6 titles and they all passed .

I believe that most of these are good and from a horde find , like the HJ shoulderstaps with the 663 numbers that must of us have at least one in our collections .

I could be wrong , this is just my opinion .

Snyders does have some real items. Look at his HJ straps. Just incorrectly discribed and way overpriced. I've heard that he is super arogant and beligerant if you ask questions or inquire on the status of your order, and sometimes does not send items at all. These are just second hand accounts of what I've been told about him, and yes there are loads of "questionable" items there.
