Jack, I am lost. I don't know what post from Garry you reference in you comment. You are stating you believe, like Garry, that the Jugendmeisterschaft competitions started in the 1930s. Yet the only known award pins are dated 1943 and 1944 as stated in the reference book by Littlejohn and Dodkins.I'm far away from home right now, so I can't access most of my sources. But I can find online that there must have been Deutsche Jugendmeisterschaften/German Youth Championships (at least in athletics) from at least 1937. Fritz Steinmetz, the source quoted, was the managing director of the Deutscher Leichtathletikverband/German Athletics Association for decades, its historian, and he was already involved as a judge back then. The date is 11 September 1937, Nuremberg.
I also vaguely remember that Buddrus even stated 1936 as the beginning (this was in a footnote).
So Garry is right, it was all still in the 30s.
That is quite likely.Perhaps the events took place but it was only in 1943 and 1944 that specific pins were created for an award?
That is quite likely.
I was referring to when the Jugendmeisterschaften were introduced as a competition, not to the pins.
Great image. Looks like the older official has her nand full of cases with the golden pins, but no Urkunden. Any date indicated in the album? You don't have permission to view attachments.
