I can't find the exact reference Lauri but I have definitely read (in a period book) that the Leistungsbuch (achievement book) and any achievement badges belonging to Hitler Youth members who were subsequently excluded from the Hitler Youth on disciplinary grounds were returned to the RJF and that the award serial number on the badge was defaced. This could be such a badge. I'll look for the reference and will get back to you when I have it.

Edit: 'Leistungsbuch der Hitler-Jugend' RJF May 1942 gives details on the return of badges and the Leistungsbuch to the RJF. Still looking for the reference for badge defacement.

Hi Brian. Yes, that is the general rule but I'm looking specifically for the reference which mentions the removal/defacement of the badge serial number on badges which were returned to the RJF.

Jumping jack, i just saw the one for sale on Das Reich, and realized, it`s not just the numbers that are all the same, it`s riding on a copper surfboard like the "S" marked badges, isnt it? tell me that are not the same ones... copper surfboard stuck on, cast aluminum...??? even if it is just me, i don't mind, but i cant see how, why or where these are authentic...

Flying Tiger, who i guess also thinks they are real , verifies that its aluminum on a copper surfboard ! Strangely enough, both Flying Tiger and Das Reich describe if as "having all the ...

" in Das Reich's cases.. "

wow, why cant we just see it for what it is... a two piece cast - post war mockery of the HJ Leistungsabzeichen, with integrated "Why would they mark it like that it must be genuine"

Unfortunately not Jo. I usually write things like that down when I read them so that I can find the book/page again but I didn't with this one. I won't forget about finding the info though. As soon as I do I'll post it here As I mentioned though, the source only said that the number was to be defaced - not exacvtly how this was done.

Garry, i don't have a problem with the crossed out number, just in this case the copper surfboard and the numbers that are all similar. a closer look will help.
