Nice clear photo. Yes, some of these these chaps put all sorts of stuff on their uniforms until the boss told them to stop :) Just been reading an order from 1940 telling Motor-HJ boys to stop putting NSKK rank and the round Motor-HJ sleeve badge on their summer caps. There's a fair bit of this kind of thing in the orders.

Got this one aswell. Not too sure if this was allowed. Would love your opinion

Nice. Always interesting to see these oddities. Generally, I think the boys sometimes just couldn't wait to be old enough to actually join the Luftwaffe, KM etc and added adornments to their uniforms to make themselves feel more grown-up. There was also a competency thing going on in the specialist arms like the Motor-HJ where a lot of the training was carried out by the NSKK and so things were "taken on" unofficially. As I say, there are repeated orders about this kind of thing but it's always great to see the photographic evidence. In this specific case I personally have never seen Luftwaffe rank insignia on a HJ shoulder strap before. I'm wondering whether this chap was in some position at a FTV i.e. the LW private rank insignia shows him as trained? I don't know to be honest.
